Wheat Research Verification Program Update for March 14, 2013

Wheat in the WRVP fields continues to progress, but a slow pace.  Much slower, in fact, compared to the unusually early crop we had last year.  While this year’s crop is probably some 3 weeks behind last year, it is actually more in line with historical trends.  Much of the wheat acreage in the state has only recently received the first application of N, but we have several fields in the program that have now received the second application.  A few fields have had herbicides applied for ryegrass and/or broadleaf weeds.  While stripe rust continues to be monitored closely, none of the WRVP fields have confirmed stripe rust.  We encourage you to scout fields weekly to this serious disease, and apply fungicides as needed.
